Roman Snow

Never in a million years did I expect to have a “snow day” in Rome but low and behold, it has happened. Freezing rain turned to snow for the supposed first snow fall in 25 years over the weekend - a statistic of much debate among the locals but regardless, it has been phenomenal.

It’s clear the Romans aren’t exactly prepared for such a natural disaster - roads haven’t been salted and are now covered in black ice, cars are still “buried” in snow because no one wants to risk strapping on the snow chains to get through the few inches that have fallen, and public schools are still closed.

But being in Rome for the one weekend it has decided to snow? Priceless. Nobody could have planned this weekend and for the tourists I saw snapping pictures of St. Peter’s and the Colosseum covered in snow it was really a once in a lifetime event. Proof that this city (and this country!) never fails to impress if you ask me!
